Screw Congress – We will do it ourselves.
Thanks to our brilliant (public) education system, many people don’t know (or have forgotten) that the power to amend our Constitution remains with the people – specifically our state legislators. To refresh your memory, here is Article V of the U.S. Constitution:
“The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three-fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.”
Allow me to draw your attention to this line: “…on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments …”
So what does this mean? it means we can tell Congress to go Fuck Themselves. All we need to do is get our State Legislators (2/3 of them) to demand a vote on amending the Constitution and then force 3/4 of the State Legislators to ratify it. It really is not any more complicated than that.
So, all we really need to know is, How do we want the Constitution to be amended? How about this?
Amendment #28 - No person holding any publicly elected office shall serve more than 2 consecutive terms for that office.
Amendment #29 – No general funds may be established by Congress. Every department, agency or legislation enacted or created, shall operate within a pre-established budget for the forthcoming year. Funds may not be relocated from one department, agency or legislation to another without reconsideration of the department, agency or legislation in its entirety by Congress. Unused funds shall be returned directly to the people.
Amendment #30 - No bill shall pass Congress and be presented for signature by the President if it so contains provisions, riders or restitution’s to which are unrelated to the Bill as outlined in the Preamble or Title Text of the Legislation. No bill shall have reference or revision to any language not contained therein.
Optional
Amendment #31 - No elected official shall receive a salary to exceed the annual median income of all persons legally employed in the United States. Salaries may reviewed and modified after the 10 year census to determine population.
These three simple amendments would cure about 99.9% of our problems.
The optional Amendment is there to put an end to the endless salary increases. It really wouldn’t do much for the country as a whole. It is more of a “feel good” amendment.
This is really all there is to it. If We, the People can force the STATES to pass these three [four] simple amendments to the Constitution, many of our troubles will go away. For all the political theater that is going on, the real problem with our Government is POWER and MONEY. If we remove the Power and the Money, the rest will fall into place. Our Government will shrink. Liberties will be restored. Our Economy will grow.
